Wookie loves to terrorize Logan, but Logan knows how to put Wookie in his place


We got this beautiful chocolate lab mix on Wednesday, the day after moving into our new home. It took us a while, but we decided on Wookie for his name. You know, after Star Wars' Chewbacca. Isaac wanted to name him Chewie, but I think that would have been setting him up for failure, so, since Chewbacca is a wookie, that's how we came up with Wookie. And man, does he even sound like him sometimes.

The neighborhood has fallen in love with Wookie (who wouldn't!) and Wookie loves them. Being a shelter puppy, he can be a little skittish and afraid of most things, animals, pets, and people at first, but quickly warms up to them. When taken on walks, he remembers where all the other dogs he has met lives (and there are A LOT on base... you either have a kid, dog, or both), and whimpers when some are not outside to say hi and play. 

Although we love love love Wookie, we have had some challenges. This is not my first dog, but it is for Isaac. Reality set in for Isaac after the first night we had him he whimpered, cried, and barked pretty much all night as he slept in his crate by the bed. Over the next couple days we've experienced cleaning the carpet of pee up to what seems like 10 times in a day (no poo yet, thankfully), fleas, hook worms, and a vet bill to take care of the latter two. Thankfully, he has stuck to chewing on his toys (and occasonally the cat's tail), and has learned "NO!" quickly when caught nipping at the couch cover.

Good news is Wookie only had three accidents in the house yesterday (none the day before) and two of those were in his crate (left too long while at church and didn't get put out right before bed). I did LOTS of reading on potty training and every single article said not to rub the pups nose in his pee/poop or punish him, which was odd to me considering this is what I have always done (albeit with little success for quick results). What I read is that dogs learn a lot faster when they know what TO DO instead of trying to figure it out by what not to do (and some other stuff about how dogs comprehend and learn). The part I'm most excited about right now is when I tell him to "go potty" he pees/poops and in just about the same spot every time! So far so good.

Using the clicker and treat method, Wookie has picked up on "sit" pretty well (not perfect). Right now we are working on "lay down", "come here", and "drop it". He's such a smart puppy! We really did luck out. We are thinking one of the other mixes is Australian Sheppard, but time will tell.

Honeymoon

Four our honeymoon, Isaac and I took a four day Carnival cruise out of Long Beach, California to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico. The first day we got up super early to drive from Logan, UT aaaaal the way down to Salt Lake City. One of Isaac's old mission companions was having a baby blessing. anticipation

Two weeks away and I turn 27 (I don't actually feel that old since my husband just turned 25. And I don't feel like he is actually that old since he is just finishing is last year of undergrad school. And unlike Utah, where a lot of guys serve missions so they graduate school later, being from Arizona I'm used to college graduates being younger. Result? My, what would you call it,  age that I actually feel is around 23 or 24 years. THREE weeks and a couple of days and I will be in ARIZONA!! I'm so ExCiTeD to see my family and friends! Not looking forward to the HOT weather, but it might actually be a nice break from here since it's suppose to be in the 50's by the time we leave.
